The Korean Mathematical Society

Founded in 1946


The Korean Mathematical Society was founded in October 1946. In fact it was originally named the Chosun Mathematical and Physical Society and renamed the Korean Mathematical and Physical Society in 1948.

The Korean Mathematical Society:-
... promotes research and education in the field of mathematics [and] is trying to help Korean mathematicians actively.
The Society publishes a number of journals. In July 1955 it began publication of Mathematical Education. In June 1964 publication of Mathematics began which was split into two publications in October 1968, namely the Journal of the Korean Mathematical Society and the Bulletin of the Korean Mathematical Society.

The Korean Mathematical Society joined the International Mathematical Union in 1981. The Society has been involved with mathematical Olympiads, organising the first Korean Mathematical Olympiad in 1987 and the International Mathematical Olympiad in 2000.
