The sinking of the Gipsy Meg

In September 1949 John Amson, his brother Harry and a friend Dave, were rescued in choppy seas in Liverpool Bay when their boat Gypsy Meg sprang a leak and was out of control after the foremast had snapped and the sheet torn away by a squall. An auxiliary engine fitted to the boat was not in working order.

They were rescued by the pleasure cruiser, St Tudno, of the Liverpool and North Wales Steamship Company which had over 1000 holidaymakers on board.
